Me while painting Mesas, 2018
New Mexico Mesas
Back time in April 2018, enjoying St. Petersburg spring, I suddenly received an email from my portrait client Armand, asking if I could do a landscape painting for him, so that he could do something about the wall in the living room of his new home that was currntly looking empty.
He just moved in there, in a rancho nearby Jamestown, artistic area of New Mexico state, a couple of months before, from California. And I remember him being excited about that big move, when we met last time in Los Angeles and talked, somewhat January 2018, when I came from Russia for Christmas and New Year to visit friends. He said back then: “I’m done with it! The whole state is going right to hell now, especially after this marihuana legalization law. If my family wants to give me a visit, they are always welcome at my new spot!” And that was it! From Tarzana, CA right to Jamestown, NM.
And that was a nice surprise 3 months later to have a possibility to create a custom canvas for a house in New Mexico for a person, who already had his portrait from under my brush, performed in 2016 in LA, CA, hung above the sofa. Now the task was to refer to the original photograph of the mountains, “Mesas”, and then to ship the completed and well dried-up work with all the documentation internationally. Wow, sounded a little bit of a challenge, LOL.

Honestly, for a couple of days I hesitated, whether I should accept the order or not, because while feeling the itching for taking the brush in my hands, I never shipped artwork internationally before, either producing it right in place when travelling, or at home. Still, artists on the forum stated that it’s not that much headache to retrieve the documents for air shipment, and that after doing it for a couple of times one turns into a Pro, so, I decided to give it a try.
